CDS completed the main HDD installation for the Kahika Rising Main Replacement and Diversion for CB Civil & Drainage Ltd and their client Watercare Services Ltd.

CDS installed a 380m shot of 710mm OD SDR9 PE pipe in a siphon profile. CDS used specialist subcontractors Highside Drilling Services to steer the drill shot some 20m deep, in East Coast Bays Formation Rock with our mud motor under one of the many tidal arms of the Waitemata harbour, Kaipatiki Creek.

CDS worked with CB Civil early on project award to finalise the bore design, work through key risk areas and detail the hydrofracture risks and demonstrate pullback forces were within specification.

CDS used our Maxi rig to pilot, forward ream to 600mm and then backream a 1m diameter borehole from Kahika Road to Reddy Reserve, and then successfully pulled the 380m long pipe into position within 8 hours using up to 30 tonnes of pull force. CDS made use of our fluid recycling plant to test, mix and recycle drilling fluid throughout the drill shot, saving significantly on our water take for the project.

Along with the help of the CB Civil team, CDS delivered this significant portion of works on time and to budget, without environmental incident.
